Genus - Galium

There are over 600 species of Galium. They are either annual or herbaceous perennials. Some species in the genus are known as Bedstraw or Cheese Rennet. The name is derived from the Greek 'Gala' meaning milk. Most of genus have the property of being able to curdle milk, hence the Cheese Rennet name. It was also used as a mattress stuffing many years ago.
